Easy DIY No Sew Peacock Halloween Costume

This adorable No Sew Peacock Halloween Costume is easy to make and won’t break the bank!

Ever wish you were one of those cool, crafty Pinterest moms? Yeah, me either. I’ve never been super crafty. I do try on occasion but it’s like that meme you see floating around social media, I’ll spend $100 on craft supplies where I could’ve bought the same thing pre-made for $5. That’s the God’s honest truth.

This peacock costume was something I had wanted to try making for a while though and I may not be super crafty but give me some tulle and felt and I can at least attempt a Halloween costume. I don’t sew (well, technically I can but half the time the sewing machine isn’t threaded right), so I tend to stick with fabric and hot glue. It’s my jam.

This peacock costume should only take a day or two to make and that’s only if you don’t feel like pushing through. If you enlist the help of your kiddo, I guarantee it’d take even less time.

Materials:

DIY Peacock Tulle Skirt

Directions:

  1. Take the blue ribbon and measure it around your child’s waist. Give yourself several extra inches to work with (you can always trim later).
  2. Taking one roll of tulle at a time, cut it into 22″ strips. Fold each strip in half so it creates a loop. Bring the loop of tulle up and over the inside of ribbon you measured and cut from your child’s waist. The bottom of your tulle will be beneath the ribbon and the top of the loop will be above. With the loop still above the ribbon, grab the bottom ends of the tulle strip and pull them through the upper fabric loop.
  3. Repeat this process with all the tulle alternating colors.
  4. Occasionally push the top tulle knots together.
  5. Once your skirt is made, you can start working on the peacock feathers. I drew my feathers freehand just by drawing a large tear drop shape. You will need 3 sizes: large, medium and small. They do not need to the be perfect – no one will notice if they are not identical! I started out by drawing the large measure and then drew the small ones and cut each out using scissors.
  6. Use the hot glue gun to ‘stack’ them together.
  7. I made 6 peacock feathers total. I totally could have made more but thought size looked ok.
  8. Once the peacock feathers are made and dried, cut (3) 12″ of ribbon and tie them onto the skirt and then hot glue (2) feathers onto the length of the ribbon.

DIY Peacock Feathers

Once you have the skirt tied and as full as you’d like and the peacock feathers attached, that’s it! You little one can wear leggings and a long sleeve top in the Peacock colors so she matches. I ordered my little one leggings and a top from Primary.com which was perfect for this costume. I looked high and low for plain colored clothing and could not find what I needed until I checked Primary
